A fool-proof method for sculpting an elephant: first, get a huge block of marble; then you chip away everything that doesn't look like an elephant. ~Author Unknown

10x8 watercolor on Yupo
for challenge at http://www.rookiepainter.blogspot.com/
I started this with a wash of rose madder, quinacridone red, permanent magenta and new gamboge and then as in "sculpting an elephant" I lifted everything that didn't look like a dish of candy. What a blast! In the past I avoided Yupo - found it very frustrating and gave up way too easliy. But I just figured with these challenges.....why not make them truly challenging (which I find Yupo is)
Wow, that looks great! I love the watery effects! No idea if we can get Yupo over here.
ReplyDeleteWonderful, colorful, and so fluid. You are handling the paint on YUPO incredibly well!
ReplyDeleteNailed it, again! Nice, very nice.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely and inspiring painting. Just wondering what Yupo is?
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Helena
Your work is outstanding, whether it's on YUPO or on paper and I love your choice of colors :)
ReplyDeleteOh, wonderful! I love this. Yupo is such fun to play with, but it definitely can be exasperating. You conquered it!
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the kind words. Helena,
ReplyDeleteYupo is a synthetic paper (plastic actually) and is very smooth and slippery. The paint stays on top and is easliy lifted...sometimes too easily.
I love your "sweets" (so much better than mine!). now I never heard of yupo before, but if you can obtaim this type of result with it, I WANT TO TRY YUPO !
ReplyDeletevery, very nice watercolor, these sweets are very tempting in their shiny wrappings.
